Today in Mr. Schick's class, we took a test on Ancient Rome and Charlemagne, who was six foot four inches of rocking rolling warrior greatness. I don't think that I would want to mess with him in a battle. I don't think that he ever lost a battle that he fought in. He even beat the Muslims who were evading from Spain. I was happy with my grade. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, Kapple got to run class......... it was the most boring thing ever. He had absolutely no enthusiasm to him at all. He sounded like his cat or dog had just died. Anyway the Middle Ages Ran from AD 476- AD 1453. That is a very long time. Well, at least it wasn't like the Dark Ages where it seemed that everyone fell of the side of the Earth and nothing happened. Germanic Kingdoms Emerge: AD 400- 600. The Kingdoms were ruled by Lords, who were the owners of the land. The Germanic Warriors were very loyal to him as well. Clovis rules the Germanic people of Gaul. In 496 he has a battlefield conversion. Led 3000 of his warriors become Christians. Also, as usual, Laura and Mr. Schick were picking on Arri, but there was nothing new there. Mr. Schick," Ding...... Ding.....Ding.......Ding.......Ding," Arri," Will you please STOP RINGING THAT STUPID BELL!!!!!!!," Mr. Schick," What like This? DING." That was classic. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

- A European Empire Evolves
- Franks control largest European kingdom
- The Roman province formerly known as Gaul

Germanic
Kingdoms Unite Under Charlemagne
Why It Matters Now: Charlemagne spread Christian civilization throughout northern Europe, which is where many of us came from
Setting the Stage: Middle Ages= medieval
period; 500-1500 A.D.; medieval Europe
is fragmented
- Invasions Trigger changes in western Europe
- Invasions and warfare spark new trends
- Disruption of Trade
- Europe's cities are no longer economic centers
- Money is scarce
- Downfall of cities
- Cities are no longer centers of administration
- Population Shifts
- Nobles retreated to the rural areas
- Cities don't have strong leadership
- Decline of learning
- Germanic invaders are illiterate, but they communicate through oral tradition
- Only priests and church officials could read and write
- Knowledge of Greek (and literature, science, philosophy) is almost lost
- Loss of a common language
- Dialects develop in different regions
- By the 800s, French, Spanish, other Roman-based languages are evolving from Latin
- Germanic kingdoms emerge
- The concept of government changes
- Roman society: loyal to public gov't
- Germanic Societies: loyal to family
- Germanic chief led warriors
- During peace, he provided food, weapons, treasure, a place to live
- During wartime, knights fought for the Lord
- Franks live in the Roman province of Gaul- their leader is Clovis
- The Franks Under Clovis
- Another battlefield conversion (Just like Constantine)
- Clovis and 3000 of his warriors are baptized by the bishop
- The Church in Rome approves of this "alliance"
- Clovis and the Church begin to work together
- The alliance was a strategic one
- 511 AD- Clovis unites Franks into one kingdom
- 600 AD- Church + Frankish rulers convert many
- Fear of Muslims in Southern Europe spur many to become Christians
- Monasteries and Convents
- 520 AD- Benedict wrote the rules for monks and monasteries
- Poverty, chastity, obedience, study
- His sister Scholastica did the same for Nuns in convents
- 731 AD- the Venerable Beda wrote a killer history of England
- Monks opened schools, maintained libraries, and copied books (Bibles, Greek texts)
- Pope Gregory I expands papal power
- Papacy= pope's office
- Secular Power= worldly power
- So…. Under Gregory the Great…
- Papal Power= Political power
- The church can use money to: raise armies, repair roads, help the poor
- Gregory the Great began to act as mayor of Rome, and as head of an Earthly Kingdom (Christendom)

Today in Mr. Schick's class we took a test on Ancient Rome..... the rise and fall of an empire at least. Going into it I honestly thought that I was going to fail horribly, but I actually did very well. I got a 94% on the test when I thought that I was going to get only about a 60% so thank you baby Jesus. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

It also stated that they could practice their religion publically, and build their own places of worship. Well, that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

The greatest single change during the Era of Roman Peace was the spread of Christianity across the empire. It began as a group within Judaism, and then evolved into a new Religion, which was originally thought of as a cult, during a time of uncertainty in Judaism. The Germanic barbarians of Northern Europe became wealthier, more highly organized, and militarily stronger as a result of Rome's neighbors.

We also learned that Jesus was part of the roman empire. well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

So today in Mr. Schick's class he wasn't here which was rather unfortunate because we didn't get to watch the end of the movie about Nero. I was very upset because I wanted to see what other madness unfolded with Nero and how he took his counselor telling him that he is going to retire. Anyway we read about the Assassination of Ceaser and how they did it. They told him that he had to come in for a discussion and when he walked in there were only a few people there, including one of his best friends Brutus, and all stabbed him to death with their daggers. After that, Ceaser's great nephew Octavian Ceaser and Mark Anthony, no not the singer, joined their rival forces and hunted down, and ultimately killed, the people who murdered Ceaser. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all on Monday.

Right before the brouhaha started, I looked at Bella and I said to her," It's about to go down!" That was my daily Kevin Hart quote. It was like a rap battle between B-Sizzle and The Greek. Of course B-Sizzle because, he is B-Sizzle, the man, the myth, and the legend. He even rapped for us when we started Ancient Rome. Well, that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class today. Anyway, after that I had a Sorbet cup that Grant bought at the store...... the store. It was very good though, so I complement him on his choice of flavors. During lunch I had a sub, nilla wafers, and a bag of pretzels. The very next mod I had Health and Wellness where I ate a whole plate of Spanish home-style potatoes that had pepper jack cheese on them and hot sauce. So yeah, that was my feats day. Although, I forgot that I had a baseball game later that day, but it was all good. Well, that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all on Monday. PEACE!!!!!!

Today in Mr. Schick's class we heard about Remus and Romulus. It is pretty interesting considering they were raised by a she wolf and a woodpecker. Granted that it is a myth on how it is how Rome was formed, it is still a very interesting story. Generally, when the men were at war/battle the wife and kids would take care of the house, farm the crops, and sell the crops to people. That is what you had to do to survive back then I suppose. Sometimes, when they came home they would come home to find that your wife sold your land and then they didn't have their job really anymore, and the would go broke very quickly. If I was the solider and I came back and saw that all my land was gone because my wife had sold it, I would be livid. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. Today's West Civ class was the best one that we have had in a long time. If I could upload the video of B-Sizzle to my blog, I would, but I can't :'(. Anyway Mr. Schick rapped today for the majority of class under the stage name, B-Sizzle. I wanted to know when his new record was going to come out, but he never told me. Oh well, but I will find out. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we went over our test that we just took for half of the class, and read for the other half of the class. I also learned a lot about their government. They had a senate, like we do today, but the king appointed them, and they were all patricians. Patricians were upper class citizens who belonged to the oldest and noblest Roman Citizens, so they were most likely friends with the king. Also, from the king appointing them, it shows that they most likely had a monarchy in which the leadership was passed down from generation to generation. Well, that is what we did and what we learned in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we took a test on ancient Greece, and boy was it a long one. I was 5 or 6 pages long. I got the test I was like, no this can't be it and then I was like oh my lord, it is really that long. It was a hard test too man I will tell you what, goodness. But, I got it done and I think that I did pretty well on it, so that's all that matters. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today.

Yesterday in M. Schick's class, we finished up the last of the Sparta and Athens storyboards and videos. I thought that they were all very good and I think that our class did very well with them. I think the best video by far was Bella's. It had to have take her 4 hours to do. All of the folding and all of the pictures that she took, and the time it took to make the video must have been ridiculous. Well, that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all on Monday.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we were in the auditorium and Mr. Schick wasn't here again :'(. It was a pretty easy day overall, but it sucks that he couldn't be with us today. So today we went over the worksheet that Mr. Schick gave us and the little questions he gave us to do on our out of school but technically in school school day. So overall, it was a pretty easy day. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all on Friday.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, he basically told us what we are going to be doing in class tomorrow since he is not going to be there. We are going to go to the classroom where we will wait for our sub to take attendance. From there, the us is either going to take us to the gym or the auditorium, depending on which they choose. When we get there, we are going tom review our, "quiz," that he gave us and he is also going to give us time to check our answers that we had to do for Cyber Day classwork. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

So today we had Mr. Goodrow, who is actually a really cool guy, but I still like Mr. Schick better. We also watched the second half of the video that we had to watch, and that was very interesting as well. Also, we had to finish the ws that he gave to us for us to take notes on. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Mr. Schick, please come back to class. Our whole class misses you and we want you to get better as soon as possible. Anyway today in Mr. Schick's class we had two different teachers. We had Mr. Bolden second and I can't quite remember who we had first, but she was cool as well. We worked on our storyboard and video again just to touch up on some stuff. I think that we will do pretty well. Update on my tournament over the weekend: Day 2, I had to goals to send us to the finals and we ended up winning the whole thing. Well that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class he wasn't there, so we had Fabs instead. He let Kapple, Sung, Arri, and I video the video that we have to do for the extra credit. That was very nice of him because if he didn't let us do that, we would not have had time to do it so thanks Fabs. So today I had a huge soccer tournament our first game was very exciting. We were down 1-0 with 10 minutes left and I got a penalty kick to score to tie it up, and that is how the game ended, 1-1. My second game was the same thing, we were down late in the second half and I got another penalty kick, and I scored again to make it 1-1, and that is how the game ended. Now we are in the semifinals tomorrow against the 1st seed in the other bracket, so it should be interesting. Wish me luck.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we did the same thing as we did yesterday. We watched the same movie that we did yesterday and we really didn't get that far in my opinion. We only got to how much land Sparta conquered. We also saw what they did when the Spartans had to many slaves. In my opinion, they were pretty cruel what they did, but I can't do anything about it so it is what it is. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

I'm tired of all of this freaking snow. I love snow don't get me wrong, but it's just getting out of control. Snowboarding is my favorite winter hobby, but still. Mother Nature needs to think warm, happy thoughts and lighten up a bit. Right now, I don't know why, she seems rather upset with us. I don't know what we did to make her mad, but we had to do something wrong. On a happy note, I watched one of the funniest things that I have ever watched today. Mr. Schick and his good buddy Bubba having a conversation. Even my dad watched it with me, and he was laughing so hard that tears were coming out of his eyes. It was absolutely hilarious. Well, that is what I did today. I will see you all tomorrow (maybe).

Today in Mr. Schick's class, he was not here so we had a substitute. I learned that the tribal communities from the Dark ages began to form city-states, but they were not the first city-states ever built. There were many city-states before the ones in Greece. For example, Samaria was already a city-state long before any others arose. City-states were small and didn't have that many residents living there. Athens and Sparta were among the biggest city-states in all of Greece. They were even bigger than some states that we have here in the U.S. That is just shocking to me. The Acropolis was the main visiting area in all of Athens, and probably, in all of Greece itself. It was both a temple/church and a fortress to where people could seek refuge if Athens was under attack. The two types of government that the ancient Greeks had were a Monarchy, and a Democracy. We in the U.S. have a democracy, therefore, us and the ancient Greeks have something in common with each other. The Spartans where what you would call the "tough guys" of Greece. They were the big school bully that nobody wanted to mess with, but the Spartans wanted to mess with them. Next, we go to the Athenians, who, nobody had a problem with, so nobody tried to conquer them because they never did anything to anyone else. One day, for some unknown reason, the Spartans got a wild fire under their butt and said, lets go and conquer the Athenians. What they didn't know was that Athens got word of the oncoming troops and mustered up a group of people to fight the Spartans. Now, the Spartans were trained professionals who new how to fight, and got a salary to go fight. The Athenians were just everyday people that lived a normal peaceful life. Finally, the Spartans got to Athens, and lets just say that it didn't end to well for them. The Spartans got absolutely crushed by the Athenians that the Spartans actually had to run for their lives because they were getting beaten so bad. It was probably the biggest upset in the history of warfare. Also, not only did the Spartans loose once, but they went back a couple of years later and lost again. They must have been pretty embarrassed to not have lost just once, but twice to the same group of people in quick secession . Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class we had auditions for who is going to be the teacher of the class on Monday. I personally think that it should be Grant because he would be the best at it, but that is just my opinion. It was actually pretty fun because it was funny to see our fellow classmates teaching us. Also, if Grant is not in charge, than I think that it should be Ericka. She was one of the funniest ones of all and got the point across pretty well. I was actually pretty impressed. 1. Three inventions or innovations of the ancient Egyptians were the Pyramid, the irrigation system that helped them irrigate the Nile River, and the invention of the sailboat. The pyramid was useful because it could help protect the Pharaohs, who were thought to be both God and man, and that was very important to them because they didn't want to anger the Gods. The irrigation of the Nile was very useful because it helped get water to the crops in the fields, they could make more goods an one time, and they basically innovated how the rest of eternity was going to be. Finally, the sailboat was important because you could get stuff from one place to another a lot quicker that you used to be able to.
2. One important feature of the pyramid is that it is like a maze, and will take a tomb raider years to find what they are looking for. Two: they were very protective and secretive in the way that they built the pyramid. I say this because only a handful of people know which stone to move if you want to get into the pyramid. Finally, Number 3, they can't really be destroyed, so if somebody were to try to bomb it to get into it, their efforts would be useless due to how thick, and so strongly knit it is.
Hopefully that this blog will publish this time.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we took a test and then after that we read about The European Barbarians. They were some bad people man. All that they would do is go around and either try to do one of three things. One: They would go to another country or region and try to conquer them. Two: Try to take as many people as they can, take them back to wherever they were from, and make the poor, innocent people slaves. Finally, number Three: They would go and kill everyone. That sounds pretty brutal to me. The best known, and probably the most fierce, were the Greeks. They were well known due to one group who lived in Greece, the Spartans. They were the baddest of the bad. Nobody wanted to go near them, nobody wanted to see them, and nobody wanted to be targeted by them. If you were targeted, you may as well just packed what you could carry up, and get out as soon as possible, because if you were there when they got there, you weren't going to end up very well. Also, sorry for the boring intros to my blogs. I am trying to think of stuff that is new and exciting and I just can't. So just give it time and when one does come, it will be a good one. I can promise you that. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow. Have a nice rest of your presidents day.

The social hierarchy that was in Ancient Egypt was actually pretty logical to me. It is basically like any other Nation. The President is at the top, then it is the government officials, then the upper class, so far and so forth. The only major difference between current time and ancient Egypt is there were slaves back then. That is about it. Of course, the Pharaoh was at the top because one he was the head of the nation, and two he was believed to be a living God. Next it was the Government officials. In a nut shell, they were basically the Governors and Senators of the different regions of Egypt. Next, there were soldiers who were very important because they protected you, and without them, you would be conquered in a heartbeat. Then there were the Scribes who only wrote stuff down, so I don't see how they were that important, but apparently they were. The next there were Merchants, Artisans, and Farmers who all made and sold tuff to other people. I could see why they were important because you need food and clothing, so I think that they were properly placed. Finally, we have the slaves who were at the bottom of the pyramid. See what I did there, huh, bottom of the pyramid. So yeah, the slaves were basically nothing to anyone.
Now let's discuss the Nile River shall we. The Nile River was probably the most important part of Egyptian life that there could be. Almost everyone to this day that lives in Egypt, lives along the Nile River. That is how much it matters to the Egyptian people. There is about three hundred miles to the East and to the West of the Nile where it is lush with trees, grass, lakes, ponds, and once you get past there, it is barren desert. I mean nothing, except cacti, snakes, and lizards. That's it. Back to the Nile. People, over the years, have finally learned how to irrigate the Nile. They even know when it is going to flood. Every July it floods, and every October it provides very fertile soil and silt. That is why they live along the Nile. Another fun fact, the Nile flows from South to North. It is only one of a few rivers in the world that does that.
That is all that I have to say about the Hierarchy of Ancient Egypt and the Nile River. I hope that you enjoyed all that I had to say. I will officially see you all on Monday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Enjoy snowmagedon, not...... Bye guys.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we did the same old stuff that we did yesterday. We watched a video on how to mummify people. We saw what the inside of King Tut's pyramid looks like. That was actually pretty cool, because I, as most people haven't, have never seen the inside of a pyramid. I was amazed at how many tunnels the thing had. On that note, the bricks are so tight that you can't even put the blade of a knife in between them. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all Monday.

Today's class was kind of a bust. We got completely off track soooooooooo fast. First off there was almost a fight between Arri and another girl in our class. A GIRL!!!!!!!!Seriously bro, a female. No, just stop and let it go. Second, Mr. Schick broke a desk, which was actually ended up being really funny after a while. All he would find were rocks, thumbtacks, and erasers. After that we watched how to mummify a person. That was pretty interesting. We also watched a crash course on Egypt today. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we talked about ancient Egypt, like how they mummified the dead people. I feel bad for all of the poor people who were not rich enough to have a nice quality funeral. Also, almost all of the people were just either thrown in the river or just buried in the desert without a care. I was actually pretty interested in it because it is a very hard and long procedure to mummify people. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class we talked a little bit about the pharos that were in Egypt such as King Tut and we also spoke about the pyramids that are there. I would love to go and see them one day. I think that it would be a fun experience. I never knew that at one time all the pyramids were covered with marble, but once the Muslim Crusaders came they took it all off. That was rather rude of them. Honestly, could imaging working on something for that long an so hard on it to make it look good, and one day you wake up and it is all gone. I would have been rather perturbed. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all on Monday.

I learned something new about Egypt today. The nickname of it is the "Two Lands." I found that interesting because I never thought that it took up so much space. Also, I found out that Egypt is the pyramid capital of the world. I kind of figured that anyway because of the tomb of King Tut which is in the biggest pyramid of the three. The other two are for his wives, which are still big, but not as big as his. Therefore, because of everyone hearing about his tomb and pyramid they want to go and see it. That is what we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.

Today during Mr. Schick's class we did nothing at all. He even proposed a new type of bell schedule. In my opinion, I thought the idea absolutely sucked, but that's me. He proposed that we go to school at eight o' clock at night. I think you all can see why I didn't like the idea of coming to school at eight o'clock at night. I like to enjoy my evening and not worry about school. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow... maybe.

Yesterday in Mr. Schick's class we went over some of Hammurabi's Code. I have to admit, they were some mean and nasty people. They almost seem ruthless. I would have hated to live back then. If you stole something from the Temple and then gave it to someone else, you and the other person would be killed for it. That seems a little harsh. Why didn't they just say give it back and something else of value of yours or else we will cut your hand off. I mean did they really have to kill the people. Well, that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow.

What is up guys it's your boy RJ here with another blog for you guys about what we did in West Civ today. I am very happy to say that I learned a lot of new and exciting stuff today in West Civ. I learned that if you stole something back in the old middle east, they would cut your hand off. I found that to be rather cruel of a punishment, but it is what they believed in so what can you do. I am not going to go over there and fight it, they may cut something of mine off too. That would be very painful. I would like to keep all of my body parts in there place, and not harm or loose them in any way, shape, or form. Well that is all that we did in Mr. Schick's class yesterday. I will see you all tomorrow with hopefully a more exciting introduction than what's up guys.

What is up guys it's your boy RJ here and today I am going to be telling all of you what we did in West Civilization today. So today we went over the historic and prehistoric eras of time. I was shocked to find out that they even had a hierarchy all the way back then. I was also shocked to find out that the men o the villages were more important than the women. The women were basically, in a nut shell, either peasants or slaves. I was a little mad that they treated the women that way because almost all of the things that men can do, women can do as well. That is why it made me upset. Well that is what we did in Mr. Schick's class today. I will see you all tomorrow.
